Overseeing talent management processes throughout the employment life cycle, she focuses on applying positive psychology in the workplace which helps creating the right environment for people to better utilize their strengths. Once an international student at UBC, Gelsey is also interested in international education. She cares about the success and struggles of international students at a personal level. Alex Kwan

Technology | Software Engineer at Microsoft

Alex is currently a software engineer at Microsoft Vancouver. Over his career he has worked at wide variety of roles in contracting, startups, and large enterprise companies such as BlackBerry and Microsoft. He grew up on Vancouver Island and came to Vancouver for post secondary education. His skill level jumped up many magnitudes when he had gone to BCIT and finished his post secondary at SFU where he was able to work with BlackBerry and network throughout Waterloo and Ontario. He moved back to Vancouver and worked at a startup, QuickMobile, working on BlackBerry and Android applications. Working with the startup scene was very enlightening on the realities of users wants and needs. He later saw an opportunity moving to Microsoft and made the transition to empower even more users than ever before by working on OneNote at the Microsoft Canada Excellence Center. He looks forward to mentoring and helping to shape the future in both technology and the industry itself.

After a couple of years of work, She decided to go back to school for deeper education in the subject matter, so she went to Spain and got her Masters in Market Research and Consumer Behaviour from IE Business School in Madrid, Spain. After coming back to Vancouver, she went back to Confirmit and this time focused on Voice of Customers programs for clients around the world, including Best Buy, Walt Disney, and Hyundai Capital. 

Currently she just started her new job at ICBC as Market Research Advisor, where she is the subject matter expert to carry out research initiatives and translate data into insights.

Jay Sung

Medicine | Entering PGY-1 Resident Physician of UBC Psychiatry Residency Program

He grew up in Vancouver and attended UBC, obtaining a degree in Cell Biology and Genetics. Dr. Sung pursued medicine at St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada and completed all of his clerkships in Canada and the US. Sandy Lee

Government / Politics and Law | Former MLA and Minister

Sandy_Lee.jpgSandy Lee is a former MLA for Range Lake and a cabinet minister of the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories (NWT). She was elected to the Legislature in 1999, 2003, and 2007. She was also the Conservative Party candidate in the NWT riding of Western Arctic in the 2011 General Election. Between 2011 to 2015, she served as the Director of NWT Regional Affairs for the Federal Government.  

She is the first Korean born Canadian to be elected to a provincial/territorial legislature and to serve as a cabinet minister in Canada. She was also the first woman cabinet minister from the NWT Capital City of Yellowknife in the NWT Legislature. 
Ms. Lee has a B.A. in Political Science with High Honours from Carleton University and an LL.B from Dalhousie Law School.

She lived in Yellowknife, NWT, between 1978 and 2015. She is now retired and lives in 108 Mile Ranch, British Columbia.

Wayne Cho

Soyon Ahn

Lab Research | Research Associate at the University of British Columbia

Soyon is a neuroscientist whose research interests lie in understanding the role of the dopamine system in the healthy brain, and how dysfunction or degeneration of this system leads to psychiatric and neurological illness. Specifically, her goals are to identify and develop novel drug treatments for diseases of the dopamine system, such as Parkinson’s disease. She is a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at UBC, and a member of the Society for Neuroscience, the Canadian Association for Neuroscience and the International College of Neuropsychopharmacology. In this role, he brings over seventeen years of expertise in strategic communications, community building and grassroots outreach gained from his experience as a small business leader working in the new media, entertainment, technology and non-profit sectors.

Big into community building, Steve currently volunteers his time serving as director of Place des Arts, member of the Economic Development Advisory Committee for the City of Coquitlam, and as director of the CKBA. Previously, Steve was the chair of C3, a member the Multicultural Advisory Council of BC and the past president for the BC chapter of the American Marketing Association.

Yohan Lee

Hyung Wook Kang

Public / Community Relations | PMO Joint Support Ship - Deputy Detachment Commander at Dept of National Defence 


Hyung-wook Kang is a naval officer with specialties in marine systems engineering, project management and shipbuilding. He's served the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) for 16 years, and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He spent the majority of his sea time, including the Head of Dept tour, in the Pacific Fleet onboard HMCS ALGONQUIN, OTTAWA and VANCOUVER. He also has extensive experience in training development, engineering maintenance and HR management.  

He currently works in Vancouver with Seaspan's Vancouver Shipyard who's building the RCN's Joint Support Ship as part of the National Shipbuilding Strategy. He leads a team of engineers to oversee various engineering and project execution activities, and provides onsite support to Seaspan on behalf of the RCN. 

An advocate of employment equity, he served as the Military Chair for Defence Visible Minority Advisory Group in the Pacific region, identifying systematic barriers for visible minorities in the defence community.

Frank Jang

Law Enforcement | Homicide Investigator / Media Spokesman of RCMP

He is currently a member of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), a specialized unit responsible for investigating homicides, high-risk missing persons and suspicious deaths in over 30 communities in the lower mainland of BC. Among his many roles as an IHIT investigator, Frank's favourite is digging through crime scenes much like in TV shows such as CSI: Miami. Frank has been a C3 mentor since the very first C3LC. Frank continues to closely mentor 5 RCMP officers; all of whom he met through the C3LC. Frank is passionate about policing and life, and is eager to meet the next batch of potential RCMP recruits, ready to lead and serve their communities. Prior to joining the RCMP, Frank received his BA in History from UBC.

James Lee

James_Lee.jpgBorn and bred in Vancouver, James Lee initially trained as a mechanical engineer, but realizing his true calling was in a creative field, James attended and graduated from Emily Carr University to study Industrial Design. Upon graduation, he was contracted as the lead Industrial Designer for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic games. During his time there he was responsible for the designing Victory Ceremonies podiums and presentation trays for medal presentations.
